I was offered a jod as a designer for a shirt company, which will be making shirts for all sorts of schools, websites, and other companies. He asked me a rough price he should pay me per design, and really, I have no idea. I need your thoughts, and most designs will be simple logos and text. What do you think?

| i have no idea either, maybe somthing like $5-$7? depends on the shirt quality, like if the shirt is worth more then your design could be like $12-$15. but as i said, i have no idea either.  | ||||

Join Date: Feb 2006 Posts: 1,322 Location: Delaware Recent Blog: Have Extra Time? | if the designs goin on a shirt and hes printing 100+ or more then charge more, the design cost is a 1 time thing for him and he makes alot of $$$ on that design, i would charge at least 20 a pop, maybe more depending on how many hes printing, or do like 1 dollar a unit or 50 cents a unit. he prints 100 thats 50 bux for you.......see what im getting at? dont let him lowball you...... | ||||

| I've always based my prices on a $20/hour rate. Designs can take a very long time and a lot of effort to create, especially for print purposes as it should usually be in vector format. You should give a quote based on how many hours you think it will take you to create what he wants. If you are going to be spending 8 or more hours on something then you should be paid more than if you only worked 3 hours. He is not only paying for your skills, but your time as well. Time that you could spend doing something more profitable. $20 per design is, in my opinion, very cheap. When I design logos, I won't go under $50. For website designs I charge upwards of $200. If you want to try and make a living doing stuff like this, you will need to take time into major consideration before quoting a price. Which is also why you can't really set a price for every design up front.
