limit forum permissions by number of posts

Does anyone know of a phpBB mod that would prevent users from posting in some forum or categories until they have a certain number of posts?

I have this translation forum on my board and I am slowly growing weary of one-time posters asking for a translation and then leaving. I would be ecstatic if I could force them to make at least a couple of general posts before they request their translation and disappear forever.

I looked through all of the phpBB mods but couldn't find any mod fitting my needs. I am hoping I missed it...

Hmm, Im not aware of the mod, however, i think that what you could do is set up your user groups so that when they post say 5 posts, they are automatilaly moved from the say newbies group to the members group. Then set it so that only the members group can post in certain forums (well members group or better).

That should do exactly what you want, and wont require a mod, as its already part of phpbbs functionality

try this :

http://www.phpbbhacks.com/download/3884 - This hack allows you to set a minimum post count for entry into a forum.

Hope that helps.

The member group suggestion should work fine. Just disallow "Newbies" from posting in the specific boards you want, and require said number of posts to move out of the Newbie member group.

No need to get a mod...

Thank you so much everyone!
I tried auto group mod for the same purpose but it gave me lots of errors while not being supported by the developer anymore.

awwible, I cannot find a way to do this through usergroups without any mods... I mean, I know how to do this I just need the users to be joined into those groups automatically, without any requests from their side.
I also need everyone to be able to see the forum, just not post in it.

I will try the suggested hack.

Right, unfortunately this is not an included feature with phpBB

You might want to take a look at this mod if you would like to use awibble's method - http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=141342

That mod will allow you to promote your members to certain groups based on post counts (automatically)

I installed the 'forum enter limit' hack - unfortunately it either hides the forum completely or gives full access to the users. What I need is for them to see the forum, without being able to post..

Thanks Ryan. I will try auto group again.
