I thought I could do a blog once - got the domain name and Movable Type setup with theme and everything, but I didn't have what it took to keep writing on a regular basis.

Forums seems to be a much better fit for me - instant interaction with other people.

I get why the pen is there but I don't think that specific pen fits with the banner - I think a clipart-type pen would be more appropriate then a picture of a real pen.

keep the pen, just make it blend in more to the banner by making it at least 60% transparent, that should deal with the attention garbing issue. You see it is the darkest object in the banner, making it very distracting, and seeing as how this is not where you want your viewers to look, you need to work on that a little more to make it "blend" in with the banner somehow. Or as stated above, use some kind of clip art pen, that would work alot better with your banner.

the banner looks nice, i am not to found of the colors, but if it matches your website template/theme then i have no issue with it.

very good job for your first animated banner!

It needs an URL. I agree about the pen - try reducing the opacity to about 50-60% but experiment. The Blooging Cafe color doesn't fit with the rest of the text, I would change the color of it.

Other than that it looks pretty good.

If you ever change the banner up, post it up here so we can see the changes too!
