Industry News question and also something to make your forum look busy...

Wow I'm horrible creating topic titles...

Is the industry news done automatically or is it done manually?

Alright now for the main point of this post. There is a script that I tested out a while ago, it was located at http://echoforum.com/ . As you can see the site is down or they stopped the script or whatever. The thing is it was an ingenious script. It would pull RSS feeds and newsgroup posts and post it on your forum automatically through a cron job you setup. So if the cron was every 15 minutes you'd get a new post every 15 minutes if there was something to post from the subscribed feeds. You were also able to give certain feeds different usernames. So if you had a feed from let's say adminfusion's newsgroup you could name the feed adminfusion or John or whatever you wanted. Then it would appear that it was a member of your forum. It was good for making your forum look busy.

Anyone know what happened with this project? It was reasonably priced too. I knew I should have bought it when I had the chance. I tested it out and it was very cool. I even had it setup so that the posts would go into a private forum that only I could see and I approved the posts coming into my forum.

Anyway there might be something similar out there and that was the reason for the first question and I was wondering if you guys used something similar and if you do what is it you're using because I'm interested to?

Are you using vB? If so, the Industry News you see here at AF is being done using this...Just as you explained, an RSS feed. If you are using IPB, this is an included feature.

I am using VB as well as other forum software. Thanks for the link for the hack, I just downloaded it.

By the way sorry if I posted this in the wrong section.

Here is also a better explanation of what I was talking about http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=116852

Very interesting. It's a shame it was never completed though

It actually was completed. I used it towards the middle of last year. I guess it never caught on. The original post was from 2004. The way it works kind of reminds me of your PostFusion.
