Is Photoshop the best software for Graphic design?

Is Photoshop the best software for Graphic design? or do designers use other softwares aswell as photoshop? are the others Adobe's softwares ?

I don't use Photoshop, because GIMP serves my needs quite well.

Like Will said, Gimp is an excellent free solution, but you can't beat photoshop if you can afford it.

I like Photoshop, have tried Gimp but was not able to get it to do what I needed, perhaps I should play with it more

I've really had trouble finding a good list of specific things which Photoshop can do which Gimp can't do. Can GIMP replace Photoshop? is the best article I've seen for that purpose.

If adjusting to GIMP's user interface is the main issue, you might want to consider GIMPshop. GIMPshop is an add-on which gives GIMP much of Photoshop's "look and feel".

I personally prefer Photoshop, as I have been using it since CS2. Like they say, you can't teach an old dog new tricks

I've also found GIMP to be very unstable in Windows. Not so bad in Linux. But still not a "Photoshop killer" or even close to it.

I used to fireworks mx back a while ago but now i am learning how to use photoshop CS2, need it updated hey. Is there much difference between CS4 and CS2?
