In this forum, I'm aiming to help Members build better websites, not only for themselves but also for their visitors. I'm a great believer in the webmaster responsibility to make the life of the visitor as painless as is possible.
What I Can Help You With CSS
I've been a CSS user for almost two years now, and throughout that time have not reverted back to table layouts once. Not because I believe tables are bad, but because I believe CSS is a far more flexible way of doing things. There aren't many CSS issues that I haven't come across before today, so feel free to ask if you run into problems.
Design
I like to think that I have a pretty good eye for design, and my Members do too, so I guess I'm qualified to a degree to respond to questions relating to design and layout. In particular, using Photoshop and Dreamweaver to create your layouts, as that is what I use exclusively.
PHP and mySQL
Again, I use this combination exclusively, though I am not as proficient in either as I am in the above cases. I've been a PHP user for about a year now, having moved from ASP. So I'm still very much getting used to PHP and its often quirky ways myself.
Web Standards
You will hear me bang on about web standards from time to time. I'm a great advocate of them. I believe that when everyone is shooting at the same goal then the web becomes an easier place to manage.
What I Can't Help You With
I can, when time permits, look at scripts that you may be having issues with. I can't, however, write complete scripts for you. Time just doesn't permit it.
I can't design entire layouts for you, or create entire CSS files for you. Aside from the time issue again, you would learn relatively little if I took that approach.
I can't be drawn into fiery debate about whether standards are good or bad. My stance is clear and to try and change my mind would be futile for all parties.
And Finally...
Please remember I do have my own sites to design and develop too. That said, I wouldn't have offered to help here if I didn't believe that I could afford enough time. But please don't always expect immediate responses. Aside from the world-clock issues that every forum encounters, it's just not always practical.
That said, I am usually around most of the time with my mail open.
Please, please, please don't PM me with help requests. When help is given via PM, it means that the next person who has the same issue can't find the solution as it's tucked away in someone's PM box. Hardly in the spirit of a forum.
I can only give help to the problem you present. If you only give me half of the problem, chances are that I can only give you half of the solution. Where possible, tell me exactly where the issue arises, in which browser, what you have tried to resolve it, etc. It all helps me to help you.
All that said, bring it on.
