I'm still trying to figure out how a 0byte file can affect any of your resources. It's not dynamic, so it won't take cpu, its 0bytes so it won't take memory and its not going to take hardly any bandwidth. Again I state, unless it is being hit 4-5000 times per second then you are not losing any resources. I exagerate a little on the 4-5000 because depending on the quality of the server it could take less than that to make an impact, but even then it would be a small impact. You would have to do a lot of impressions at one time inorder to see the same impact on cpu that you see from one impression of the forum. All you do by taking over the page is piss ppl off, but w/e. Do what you want. It is just the worst business decision ever.

If you really want them to remove the code, change the banner that they're embedding into a really loud wav file with a strobe-animated gif image. It'll annoy their users so much (and likely them as well) that it'll probably get removed lickity split.

If you're seriously intent on stealing their traffic, I've got half a mind to find the backlinks to your site and send all the administrators an email pointing here. What you're suggesting is dishonest, and you can't possibly expect to get value out of every byte served from your webserver. Google's crawler probably eats up the same bandwidth parsing your robots.txt file. Why not try and hijack google?

Why don't you just make a simple 404 file that will link to your main page. that way you don't lose advertsing and people will look at the 404 like WTF and click and you will regain more traffic from people that may be interested in your site.

I guess your to stupid to think of that one. I hope they sue your ass off for hijacking their websites.

It basically involves making the most vile, disgusting picture you can find appear instead of what is currently appearing. It's very effective for people who hotlink images, so I'm sure it'd work for this.

I don't really condone it for this particular situation though, but I'm fine with it for bandwidth leaches.

PM me the codes for the hotlinking and the 404 file please. That way I can put a hurting on the poeple that try to hotlink my images.

I don't have any code. I do it through the hotlink protection feature of my cpanel.

Maybe someone else can chime in with another way to do it.

I won't name the file that I use. I'll just say that it starts with a 'G' and ends in 'e'. Shoot me a pm if you really want to know.
