![]() | Unable to access after transfer I transfered my site to a new host today and transfered the domain as well. Trouble is I am not getting really annoyed because I cant seam to access my site at all even though it seams the rest of the world can... I have reset my internet connection and still, nothing. Any ideas what the problem is?

| The Webmaster ![]() | Probably just waiting for a DNS update, it should switch within a few hours.

![]() | You sure? Everyone can access it apart from me, I can get on it using a proxy without any problems. I cant even access the site via IP.

| The Webmaster ![]() | That makes it sound even more like the DNS waiting to update. Since you're probably checking it a lot to see if it switched its going to take longer, in my experience.

![]() | Ah! Ok so there are two things contributing to this now. The fact there is an outage at Virgin Media and I have got a few messages from people now saying my site does not work which I can guess is down to the DNS updating still because it keeps switching between my new host and old.

Your ISP maintains a cache, which, if they are anything like Charter Communications, isn't cleared or updated too often. I generally have to force the clearing by resetting my cable modem and booting down my PC. DNS propagation takes anywhere from (in my experience) 6 hours to 72 hours. The lower time frame is generally for new domains that have just been registered and the DNS newly set, the higher time frames for DNS that has been switched to a new provider. Generally with NameCheap.com, I notice lower DNS propagation times than with any other registrar, however, that's my personal experience with them .
