| Lurker | It would really depend on how far the client in question is from the location of the providers' data center in terms of ping/traces (in milliseconds). Generally, the further away from the data center, the larger the ping time. If your client is located in the US and is concerned about service and time, I would suggest having them search for a web hosting provider located within the US. The same would really apply to the UK, Australia or any other country. You simply need to check and see where the web hosting company you're looking to go with has there servers located. For instance, although some web hosting providers are based in the UK, their physical servers are located within the US. Are there any other specifics? |

| Groupie | My host is in Belgium, my servers are in Canada, and I live in Las Vegas. Never had a problem. One thing I have going for me is I can SKYPE contact my host with a problem any time I need to. There is something to be said for dealing with a small company and building a relationship. The cool thing is when I go over band with I don't get shut down I get a skype call. I do know that picking a host really is a big decision. There are a few companies I would highly recommend staying away from. But being my second post I don't want to start pissing people off yet. LOL Brad West ~ onomoney

| The Webmaster ![]() | If your users are generally from one geographic location, I'd pick a host in your area as James said. Though I would not decide on a host solely based on this, don't sacrifice quality or service just to get one based in a certain location.

| Member | Like JamesRSC said, a website should be hosted depending upon the target audience. If your target audience are from UK then your website should be hosted on UK based server. The same would apply for other countries. For example : If your target audience are from UK and you are hosting your website on UK based server then you would get two major advantages. 1. Search Engines categorize your website as a UK website and you get better ranking in UK. 2. Your customers from UK get better browsing speed and your websites will load much quicker in comparison with Australia, US, India based servers.
