Join Date: Oct 2005 Posts: 652  | Quick lesson, stay away from free hosts. They WILL go down. And no matter what they say, you'll almost never get your backups back. Your best bet is to buy a modest hosting package (under $5 a month) from a reliable company (there are plenty of suggestions in these forums). Or, you could do what I do, which is to request a hosting sponsor, in which a company will provide hosting for you in exchange for a link on your website. This works particularly well with websites that have already been made and are mildly successful. | ||||

| Running on a free host is like saying "Hey. I don't want my forum to succeed!". Most people won't sign up to a free-hosted forum. You should at least get a real domain. But, if you want to succeed in the forum world, you need to make a few "investments" [$7 for a domain and $5 for a fairly large hosting account is all l I have ever paid, apart from vBulletin and a theme, but you don't need either to be quite successful.] I promise to pay $10 if you are still running on the same free host as you will be once you find one. | ||||

| I used free hosting on my GGF site, but i had my own domain and the account i used was ment to be paid for, but i was a loyal member at their forums. Anyway, i try to avoid free hosting, you don't get enough space and transfer anyway. You would best get paid hosting even if its $10 a year, small price to pay for heaps more privellages and flexability. just my 0.2¢ | ||||
