the most i have paid so far is low $$$ it was a 3 character domain which i have yet to do anything with the domain but i do have plans just not got the time to develop the site!

$70 a pop back when we used to have to go through NetSol. Considering a couple that'd be in the hundreds for a non-internet business's domain.

I own a Truck club (well actually a few), and when we took over the NLOC club, the .org domain had just been lost. It took me 3 years and ~$500, but I now own it also. Now If I can just get the .com at a decent price.

I have a huge dislike for people who create names and sell them at a higher price (I know it's a business, still I dislike it). I never paid more than the normal fee for a domain name. I always create my own domains and work from there.

Paid $29.95 for iguanadons.net because I had already searched it on RegisterFly and tried to register it 3 times. Figured something fishy was up and could only think of Network Solutions, so ran to get it there before someone ganked it.

Turned out I was probably right in doing so because I've had some angry emails about it and I've only had it 3 months

I have bought 20 or so domains, all for under 10 bucks (GoDaddy.com is my registrar). I've sold a few, but haven't made more than a few dollars on them. I have a few that might be worth a few hundred or more to the right people, but I haven't tried to market them. I really should unpark a lot of mine and start getting some income from them.

I am one of those guys who will have a name just come to me and buy it thinking it might be worth something some day. I have also bought domains thinking people I know would like to have them. A few have, some haven't. If I have a domain that is a person's name, I try to get my money out of it, but not for profit. But I buy all the domains in .com, .net and .org and some that are similar. If someone wants one of them, they should buy all of them.

My biggest mistake was letting go of a few great domain names and now they are directories making money for the new owners. The biggest mistake I see others make is talking about a domain they want that hasn't been taken yet. I guarantee you that domain will be gone before you make the decision to get it and then you'll have to pay more or pick a worse name.
