Add-on domain

Hey folks,

I have got a website in the works, and I have the domain for it - silverfirefly.com (Silver Firefly Studios). For the foreseeable future, it's going to be an online store selling vBulletin styles and other vBulletin graphics that I've created. Later on, I may get into custom work if there's enough interest and enough profit to be made from it. It is a business after all.

I have an unused domain lying around called myvbulletinstyle.com which is due to expire soon. It obviously has a couple of keywords in it that relates to my website - 'vbulletin' and 'style'. I'm not that savvy about domains really, so I'm wondering if it's worth renewing this domain and using it as an add-on domain if it'll drive traffic to my website? Or wouldn't that work? Would I be better off saving a few quid and just let it expire?

So have you decided on silverfirefly.com for a reason? If it were me looking to sell vB skins and graphics, I would much rather use the domain myvbulletinstyle.com instead of silverfly.com.

But...if you've already decided to use Silver Fly, there is no reason to renew myvbulletinstyle.com unless it is receiving traffic. If it's receiving traffic, then you can redirect that traffic to silverfly.com...but if it's not receiving traffic, the keywords in the domain are useless - You won't get any hits from SE's without content.

Okay thanks. Obviously there are other ways of driving traffic to my website other than keywords in the domain so it's not a major concern for me. Thanks for the heads up - I'll save my cash.

Watch out that by having both domains you don't get caught out by the SE's.

Well I won't be caught by anyone because I've decided to dump myvbulletinstyle.com and go with silverfirefly.com.

Because in the future I will expand my business to include other forms of web design. For now it will be to do with vBulletin styles and graphics. So I needed a name that isn't just to do with vBulletin. If I was only planning to do vBulletin related work, period, then I would go with a vbulletin related domain. But that isn't the case. Which is why I typed:

Quote:
For the foreseeable future, it's going to be an online store selling vBulletin styles and other vBulletin graphics that I've created.

If you look at other graphic/web design/media websites and companies, a lot of them have odd names like mine. Like for example: lunatrix.co.uk, peppercorn.co.uk, mackins.co.uk and so on. The domains wouldn't really make the average person think of web design, graphics or media. It becomes apparent when you actually look at the website what their business is about.

Pixels,

myvbulletinstyle.com is a great domain name. I would advise you to hold onto it. It can't cost more than 15£ to renew the domain including private registration. someday you may be able to sell it for a tidy profit. As an amateur web design and vBulletin design hobbyists who has lost a fortune giving away free vBulletin styles and custom graphics; I'd be interested in knowing more about your impending enterprise.

Regards,

B.
