Should I buy or wait?

Alright, here's the situation. I emailed the owner of bleachfans.com wanting to buy the site. Later I did a whois and found the domain only had till October 19 (next Friday) until it expires. The owner replied to me and said that he had 45 days until it expired and asked how much my offer was.

Should I wait till next week and just buy the domain once it expires, or should I go ahead and buy it from him now just to be safe?

If the latter, what do you think a good price would be for the entire site, and for just the domain? The thing I'm interested in most is the domain but I figured might as well take the phpbb database since theres probably only 1000 non-spam posts so it wouldn't take the price up much and would give me 2000+ members to email when I start the forums back up.

Things to keep in mind: Bleach is an incredibly popular anime so the domain could be worth quite a pretty penny, I'm not sure if the owner knows this or not. Any help is appreciated.

Well its time to wait until a domain expires. You're competing against the whole world once it does. Why not buy it now?

What do you think a good offer would be? He definitely sounded like he was going to let it expire so I'm guessing it wouldn't have to be that high. Any advice is appreciated.

One thing you are forgetting about is that once a domain is "expired" it is not available to the public until 60 days later, when it's "deleted" from DNS/ICANN.

Yeah, there's a whole process to it. And also there are domain scalpers who just buy up a heap of expired domains to try and park/sell

Hmm, I didn't know that either. Well I think at this point I'll definitely want to buy it from him. How much do you think its worth, or how much should I offer him for it?

I don't really know about domain pricing, you should ask Ryan.

Or just ask him what he is looking for the domain? don't leave it to long though.

Well if he is just going to let it expire, maybe just offer him the past couple of years of his registration fee.

Plus if you think it is a a great domain and it's worth a pretty penny, make him a solid offer. By the sounds of it, you'll make your money back pretty fast.
