Stuck in the past

Hi,

I moved my site on a new server on 18th of October and since then I've got a problem with a few of my forum members. They can login and see the site but what they see is what the site was before the 18th of October. I mean, the date they see in the home page is 18th of October and they see no new posts since then, even there are hundreds of them. It's like they got stuck in the past or something...

Anyway, I told them to empty their browser's cache, restart and login again but nothing has changed.

The reason that is causing the problem, as I can see, is they are still seeing the dns for the old server.

What do you guys think? Do you have any ideas of how I can bring those people back to the present time?

it just takes time, ISP's should refresh the DNS cache daily, but sometimes (especially business customers) it doesn't get done and you wait. I have been thru the same thing, you can have them try this

So from the 18th to the 29th of october people could only see the forum database from the 18th? I highly doubt this is a DNS issue, as it normally only takes 72hrs for the DNS to populate the entire internet.

It may be a problem where the posts are not displaying because of the options (check picture below). Most forum software have them at the bottom of each forum, try asking your users to check there post display settings and to set them as shown in the picture.

I hope this helps.

Well, I asked from those users to run nslookup www.mysite.com in their cmd and they report that they still seeing my old server's IP.

NOTE: There are just a few users that they have this prob. All the others (99%) they can visit my site with no problems at all.

Anyway, I create an .htaccess file into the old servers root, setting a 301 redirect to the new server's IP/~user/index.php and I hope it'll work.

I don't know if I'm missing something though... What do you think?

And this has been happening from the 18th to the 29th? (today), Try asking your members to repair there internet connection, there should be like 2 monitor screens on the Windows nav bar, as that will clear there DNS cache & re-new there IP address etc. It might work..its worth a shot.

i had the same deal when TD was new, we switched servers. my house (Comcast ISP) was pretty much instant i saw the new server and site. My work (Sprint ISP) took like 2 weeks, no exaggeration i saw the old site, no new posts, i could even shout and no-one would see it......me, my sister, and maybe 3 other members saw that old site for like 2 weeks. It was freaky.

Oh, i've never had this problem before. My ISP updates every couple of hours i think, well when i register hosting/domain names it says it can take up to 24hours to populate onto the internet but it takes a few hours.

In this case, trust Caddy

Yeah, in most cases, it will only take 1-2 days for people to see new nameservers...but it CAN take days or weeks for this to happen for small pockets of users. It happens.
