But you have to figure most of there customers probably own 2 to 6 domains each. If the didn't do this it could potentially cost them more money than not following up.

I've gotten calls from them before. They also called to ask if I wanted to change my payment method to pay for an entire year at once instead of monthly.

cost of keeping a customer is 1/7th the cost of acquiring a new one. some people think that getting a call is something and special touches like that make people stay

It really is though, as it takes a lot more effort then sending out generic mass emails. I feel a lot more of an obligation/interest/care whenever I receive a phone call then to when I get an email.

if you get enough domains they assign you a account rep that takes care of nearly everything you need

GoDaddy calls me twice a year just to make sure everything is ok, when my Caller ID displays: "Arizona Call" I know who it is. Customer service is great, but don't forget this is a chance for them to upgrade your account and bring in more money. I have 2 domains through them, and one $3.99 hosting account. If I could figure out how to import a 200meg DB through their webpanel interface I'd get another hosting package with them.

they called me about 1 domain today. they obviously are getting more aggressive with people renewing through them. It must be an attrition thing and them working hard to keep people with them vs leaving to go elsewhere for the same services.

My office job it's the same type of deal, we like new customers but gaining as many new customers as you're losing doesn't make you profitable, keeping the current customers and gaining new customers is what's profitable.
