I Got a Call from GoDaddy Today

They called to remind me that I had 5 domains expiring soon...That's it

I thought that was pretty strange. They obviously would like for me to renew, but it's only 5 domains, and it's not as if I'm a heavy domain buyer - I probably have 15-20 domains through them.

Surely they have better things to be doing than calling average domain owners begging them to renew

Obviously they don't have better things to do..

And the cost of a phone call, compared to if you was to re-new the domains they would make money.

Right, but they've already sent me probably 5 emails reminding me that these domains will expire soon...I would imagine that, for the most part, anybody who has not renewed a domain after they've been emailed 5 times about it is probably *not* going to renew the domain at all...Either that, or the person is just waiting until the domain is closer to expiring. Afterall, they start sending out reminder emails 3 months in advance.

I was just kind of surprised to be getting a call from GoDaddy considering how few domains I actually own.

Ah, i didn't know they sent out emails already notifying you that they will expire soon. They must really want your custom , or they're just really determined to get you to re-new.

You do say you own around 25domains, right? well that is a few, and at the cost of the domain, they would rather you re-new a few of them than having to wait 60days i think it is until the domain can be used again.

When you think about it, how many people let 5 notices pass by without renewing their domain? You might have changed email addresses and forgot to update GoDaddy - or you could be on an extended vacation, it's just a courtesy and I'm sure a lot of people appreciate it.

I love the fact that godaddy has a ton of automated reminders in place and that they have 24-7 ACTUAL people available for support. I have called them many times at 4am with issues on new accounts or hosting issues and there is always someone available. i have only positive things to say about godaddy to date.

Yeah, I can definitely see reasons for them making the phone call - They want to make money and they want your repeat business.

I was just kind of surprised to get a phone call from them over 5 domains...I just assumed they had bigger fish to fry than me. I didn't think 5 expiring domains warranted a phone call, and I don't think it's a bad thing from a customer service standpoint. As SirTVD said, it does help send the message that "GoDaddy cares"

That is quite weird, the only time I got a phone call from a domain registrar was when I signed up for a ResellerClub account. I've never used GoDaddy, but they must really want you as a customer, has anyone else gotten a phone call from them?

That's odd... I had plenty of domains expiring, but they never bothered to call me.
