Well... I was sort of expecting this to happen. If you want a successful forum, you need to lay down a little money for a webhost that's got a lot of expertise in running Linux-based, secured, servers. The internet speed I have with my server is 100MBPS up / down, which is why most properly hosted sites load fast. We can only dream of speeds like that at home....

It should probably be said that you shouldn't expect anywhere near those speeds with the $5/month hosting plans folks have suggested in this thread.

Of course not, but I'm willing to bet that unless the server is totally overloaded you'll still get speeds much faster than the average home DSL upload speed. HTML pages with a few small images don't take much bandwidth to get across, but you still notice the slowness when running on a home server. Plus, most ISPs disallow running servers in their terms of service. It really isn't practical to host at home unless you can get at least decent SDSL or a leased line, which is much more expensive than standard internet access and still slower than a datacentre link
