Is It Possible..

Dont know quite where i should have put this...
But Here goes

Okay, My forum has grown somewhat, and will soon need to expand to a bigger package, i am sticking with my current host though.
However, whem i get this bigger package, i will get an extra 7 MySQL databases, i currently have 3. I was wondering, to help me get money, would it be possible to install a free forum software on 1 or 2 of these SQL databases such as phpBB, then sell it for say £30 a year? my package would cost me about £50 a year. So then, if the person pays £30 per year, they get a Subdomain, for example i was thinking MYFORUMADDY.co.uk/THEREFORUM or THEREFORUM.MYFORUM.co.uk, Would it be legal to do this, or indeed possible?

conversions
£30 = $54
£50 = $91

hehe, thank you for that - I was concerned when I first read your post, thinking *oh no, I don't know these conversions* ...lol

Anyways, my suggestion to you would be to get a new host. Reselling space on your account is going to be more trouble than it is worth - and that is assuming that you can even find a buyer...not to mention there are plenty of good hosts out there who can give you a package for a price similar or even cheaper than what you're paying right now.

Heh, i always put Currency converts in

hmm, my current host is Zernebok Hosting, My current account with 5GB per month bandwith and 250MB space is £21 per year. The exact price for the new package im wanting is £32, cheaper than i thought...

Conversions
£21 = $38
£32 = $60

The reason i am hoping to sell space is because i need some extra money to help pay, However i could let them have aforum for free, then charge them if it grows beyond a certain space, or GB per month useage?

You'll definitely have a problem selling space to pretty much anyone unless they are your personal friends and you beat them with a whip before they agree. Hosting prices are so low nowadays that it's hard to charge much especially at a yearly rate. The only thing I can think of you doing that could possibly get someone to pay that; is if you create and start the forum and get members and than maybe someone will pay. I pay more than that monthly for my forums, but I also host as many sites as I want, but most people will look at all the other nickle and dime hosts and go with the cheapest way.

I think you need to think about advertising on your forum. You are looking at adding quite a bit of work to recoup your costs here, I would much rather incorporate some advertising and save the bandwidth for your own sites growth.

5 GB per month is a scary number for me. How much is your new account going to provide?

You need to worry about getting clients that will instantly kill your server. If this were a 500 GB per month account it would be a different story, but even then there are more things to worry about like memory. These people could kill you with memory usage without digging into your bandwidth much at all.

The result would be you getting kicked off of your server most likely.

The new account is double that 10GB Bandwith, 500MB HDDSpace, I know its not much better, but i dont want to invest in a superduper package for now, especially as i not fond of Adverts.

I guess its illegal, because hosting account you would be having would be a shared and not a reseller. If you do this on a shared account, then its illegal. But if you get reseller then its legitimate, though now your pocket will dent further.
Also, note that why would anyone be interested in paying that much amount for a forum where he has no control.
Fact still is that you have control over CPanel or control panel and you wil lnot provide him that as you have your sites as well, he can anytime take control of it and knock you out. Same for him. He has only admin status of forum in that case, but should he wish to backup or do anything, he needs control panel login which you will in all means deny him. So, if he is to pay you money, why wouldn't he go for some where he has control ? Just my 2 cents.

The person would be using someform of forum package (i will only allow a forum, not a site) Most forum packages allow backups straight from the ACP of the forum, and i can setup an FTP account to allow access only to the directory there forum is in, and block access to any other area. There fore allowing thme t upload files, and backups.
