Haven't heard from my host..

I have now not heard anything from my host for the last 3 months. The site is still running perfectly, but I haven't been able to contact him. I am not on a subscription payment, so I haven't paid for the last 3 months.

So there is no chance I lose my site (in case he suddenly closes his company down), should I start looking for a new host now?

I'd start with daily backup's if you haven't already, but I'd stick there for now. It's not often you get something for nothing in this life so make the most of it. Of course if it does go down then you've had a good run and a new host to set up on (with your daily backups) won't have you down for long.

Ok thanks alot. I have never taken backups before and I wouldn't be sure how to install them onto my new host if worst came to the worst. Would the new host help me re-install my site?

No idea, some would, some wouldn't, but a few people here including me wouldn't have a problem doing it for you.

ps. you only need to backup your ftp if you add mods or upgrade the board software. As long as you have one backup of that you'll be fine. The databse is the important thing, back that up at least once a day as that's where all your members, post and pm info is held.

If you do decide to get a new host or have to get a new host, let us know. Someone will be happy to help moving your site.

You need to move to another server. At some point you are going to be charged for the months you have gotten for free, or you are going to wake up one day realizing your site no longer exists.

Is this the same host you are using to run the "business" you are advertising?

Um run away fast. That is a very good indication that you do not need to have your business rely on their servers.

You should always backup your site daily or atleast as and when you edit/ add stuff. Don't rely on hosts backup anytime. Accidents happen and who knows...

Well moving the site is very easy. Anyway, if you decide to take a payed host they will do it for you. Even most of the free hosts will do the same for you. You just have to make fresh backups. Every Day

I would agree with BamaStangGuy. Get out now. You already got three months free. I would backup and move on. It is only a matter of time before this host is gone as well as your data.
