well with regards to the subject...yeah VB takes alot of server resources to run, even worse when you have a big community with lots of people posting, im not sure about IPB though, i never really used it much

I am using ipb it doesnt use too much bandwidth and the best tip is to use a skin with minimum graphics!

definately....less graphics is always one way to cut down on server loads and sometimes a graphic-less layout can look 100X better then a fully graphic one

Im not 100% sure about invisions usage but it is built to withstand high loads & server problems if it needed too.

PHPBB can be quite intensive as some of its code is rather poor, you also run the security vunrability risk but thats another topic...

scince vBulletin 3.5 server resources are lower as the code is more optimised to be fast as well as secure.

Depends really.

If you are talking about a fresh installation, it should be phpbb.

It has a page generation time of less than 0.1 seconds.

In a way its like asking how long is a piece of string...the question should be more open, you would need to have the same specs on your server and same setup to test this method...maybe its something we can look into for the future!

Actually, this is a pretty good question. I'd test them out, but I don't know of a good way to measure system resources easily.

The best thing to do would be to setup a set of four VPS servers running on the Xen platform to give them equal usage. Put vbulletin, phpbb and IPB in their own VPS areas and then with the fourth use a script to generate trafic to each of them and hey presto!
