Free Hosting

What's the best way to go with free hosting. I want to get free hosting, with a sub-domain, and be able to upload smf into it, or mybb. Do you know who's the best, and free? Or would I have to go paid?

Patience is key, my friend. I personally would advise against free hosting. While there are some decent free hosts out there, the majority of them are unstable, unreliable, and usually last only a few months. Sad, but true.

It was only 2 hours...

Anyway I agree that free hosting is horrible, trust me I was on it for almost a year. Very unreliable and many many errors. My traffic and revenue went up when I went with paid hosting, plus you get what you paid for.

The idea is to look for providers who normally don't provide free hosting. For example, I have one website hosted by a person who does not own a web hosting company. He was starting a brand new forum, and in exchange for my membership and activity, he gave me (and 4 other members) hosting. The reason why this would work is because free hosts die when they get ahead of themselves and get a DOS attack. If you're only hosting 5 people and your main source of revenue has nothing to do with hosting, you're much safer.

Used free hosting before, and never again.
I'm afraid that paid is the only way if you want anywhere near half-decent support. The host I just joined even has a very active forum with tech staff from both sides of the Atlantis on their almost 24/7 to help out with any questions. (It's faster than using the support ticket.)

Plus, with free hosting you're more likely to have uptime shorter than the infamous 99.9%, no matter what they say. With it being free, how obliged would they be to maintain servers with the proffesionalism of a paid host?

Therefore, yes, everybody has answered your question...and I tend to agree with them. Hosting is dirt cheap...there's no reason not to go paid. It will save you enough headaches to be more than worth your money.
