My site is aviation related and some airlines have VIP rooms for their frequent flyers.

I was thinking of setting up a VIP forum, gold room etc... using phpbb usergroups function. Just trying to think of something that would make the members want to join up.

Has anyone got a VIP room on their forums and if so what do you offer your members that is different to the public rooms?

we have a VIP section......

has better software
more uploads for movies and such
vips get a site email address
special services not offered to the reg members
anything nice that we feel reg members dont deserve (sounds mean but its the truth)
different skin also, its red and pimp...lol

some sites offer VIP's like personal server space and things

that reminds me, i have to redo the skin for VIP, since the upgrade ::too work i go::

Im wanting to do this too and i have all the usual, more pm's bigger avatar/sig space etc, but thats nothing new and im hoping i can think of something outside the box!

Here at adminfusion, i think they let you into a forum in which members can see the budget and then have a say on what to spend it on... i hope im right on that or i havent a clue where i got that idea from.. but i think thats a great idea... just need one or two more like that i think!

We used to do this, but not anymore

We've actually held a poll for our supporters asking exactly this question...what is the reason that they donated? Believe it or not, the vast majority of them simply donated to help support the site...And the green name/badge came in second. I think it's fine to offer the typical stuff such as increased PM storage, attachment storage, etc...but this is just bells and whistles and not something that anybody is going to do very much for. We also offer a "VIP forum", but again, this is not really something that our supporters became supporters for.

I think that the important thing here is to give special attention to all of your members and make them feel welcome...this is the reason that people donate. They donate because they support/believe in the forums, so you need to instill this into them.

I really just thought of a VIP forum where they can post just about anything out of the public view. I already offer custom titles, larger avatar sizing, quizzes, access to airline history, airport codes, fleet lists etc...

Was just an idea that popped into my head, but I consider all my members VIP's anyway

I have a donate function but don't get any donations anyway. Doesn't matter because I'm not here to make money, it's my hobby.

I set up a VIP usergroup at my forum. (Vbulletin) Once you get a certain amount of rep points, posts, and such, you get promoted to a much more free usergroup, with a lot of privelaged permission options.

As for a VIP board, I only have a staff section, nothing further then that
