Working out the Kinks

Ok here's my idea. That I think is very needed, and I can't find anything like it.

Health (focused on mobility) problems, and exchange of information, especially handicap equipment. Canadian only is where I'd like to start.

My dad is handicapped after a stroke, and is need of mobility stuff, yet It's hard to find sites online on where to buy this stuff.

And it would be nice to create a place where you can pick up a handicap van, etc,

I was thinking of creating a dot com with a forum.

I think it's a great idea

You'll have a very unique audience, so you will definitely have to look at things differently. I'm referring to the demographics...many of the people that you are targetting will be elderly...this is the group of people least likely to be using the internet, and especially using the internet for forums. Because of this you'll need to keep things such as ease of use, ease of access, readability, speed (more dial-up visitors), etc. in mind.

All of your visitors will not be older, obviously, so you are not completely out of luck, but there will be a larger percentage of elderly for you than for most other forums.

I think it's a fantastic idea. Keep this is mind, though: The last thing elderly people want to deal with is a forum with lot's of modifications, a complicated interface, etc, so try to keep it as simple as possible.

But their kids.... like me will be looking for ways to care for elders as well. Actually what is funny is my husband is a pogo freak, and was playing bowling with a 89 year old lady. WOW.

I think we don't give elders enough credit. Computers have been in the work force for over a decade. I don't think they are too scared of it.

I was more thinking a website, articles, classified ads, and a forum. The forum I was thinking was more of a place for the care giver, not so much the person that is in need of help.

Ah, okay! So you're saying that this website would be more of a resource for caregivers, as opposed to an online discussion forum for elderly people who suffer from mobility issues? If so, I think it's a great idea.

I couldn't agree more. My Aunt, who suffers from MS, can really get around on the web. I think's it's great.
