When I first made my site, The Nerd Council, (www.nerdcouncil.com), there weren't any nerd forums around that I knew of. So what I did was find where nerds would hang out; in technology forums or academic forums, and I posted there, leaving my signature behind. So what you want to do is look for a place where people would most likely be interested in your niche.

If it is untapped as you say then it should be easier for you to get ranked high in search engines so make sure you do your keyword research and optimize your site for them properly.
