Drama, Good for forums?

I have heard a few people say that drama on a forum, can be good for it, how i don't really know.

Do you think this is true, or a load of donkey poop?

I think it is very true.
My partner and I are always having issues two great minds clashing lol, it brings members in to see what we are up to. I am fascinating or so it seems.
The iDEN community has the rare female so I am unique while the drama keeps them coming we keep it moving.

I wouldn't really say drama is a good thing...it will only become worse as time goes on I would think. Debate threads over serious topics is fine, but I don't think drama like user fights and stuff is any good.

Drama in the forums is like in the circus when they play with the lions. Sometimes it can be absolutely amazing and it draws people in, but when the lion eats the guy it's disaster. I like to have clean forums. My experience showed fights lead to dissolving a community.

Agreed.

However, It also depends a lot of what your forum is all about. In many cases, people don't come on the internet to be nice. In those cases, drama would probably be helpful because it would boost traffic and keep things interesting.

A little drama every now and then is great for business. There was one time a member was calling me out as admin, just to antagonize me. Technically, he wasn't breaking any rules, but he was still mocking me and such, just to see how far I'd go. I kept him around for a good few weeks for entertainment value, since people would log in just to see what he or I would say next

A little drama can be a good thing (it adds a little excitement to things), but letting it go too far is not. I don't think there's really any way that you can put a complete stop to "daily drama", but you can restrict it. However, I've seen many, dedicated members leave forums, due to the intensity of the situation. It really depends on how members react to the situation, and if they take it personally.

Debates are good, but then again, they can also lead to unwanted drama, flame wars, etc.

Chris

Bleh. Dramatics don't work as a way of increasing activity in anyone BUT your existing regsistered members who actually know what is going on. How many here are forced into or like to (freaks!!) watch soap operas? Have you ever tried watching one where you do not know the characters? It just doesn't make sense why X hates Y but loves Z and all the time A and B are fighting over C. You have to be involved or a regular viewer to understand. Otherwise, it all just looks a bit like crap.

Not always true. I've read some very entertaining site drama, on sites I was not registered on, over the years. I usually found them by someone posting "Hey look at this" and a link on one of the websites that I moderate.
