Running a TV show forum

Okay, I've offficially decided to set up a forum for one of my favorite TV shows. I've scoured the net and there doesn't seem to be any one central forum that viewers for this show go. There's plenty of little ones, but none have really taken off and most of them are on free hosts.

This show is pretty darn popular so I think I've got a good niche here, and a good chance at making it.

For those of you that run TV show forums, is there anything special you've done to make it grow, aside from the usual? What I mean in, is there anything you've done marketing wise specific to running a forum for a certain show that has made it a success?

What do you like and dislike about running a TV forum?

I'm also a tad worried about what will happen when the show is canceled. All shows eventually get the axe. I know if the community is strong enough it'll survive and evolve, but gosh it's still quite scary.

Anyway, I'd love any suggestions and helpful hints from the TV show forum gurus here. I know we've got a few hanging around AF.

I've run several TV show forums. Usually I'll end up selling them unless I'm personally a huge fan of the show. This solves the whole "getting cancelled" problem.

I would simply say stay involved. If you're consistently being active in the forum it helps SO much.

One dislike I have is that, for me anyway, I don't have time to watch the show(s) on the night they air. I have to record it and watch it later. Therefore, much of the time that it's the most active, I'm gone.

Thanks, I'm a tad scared about doing this, it's hard to think of starting from scratch again. CP is just getting to the point where I don't need to be there every waking moment. Starting all over with a new forum freaks me out just a little. But since the show is on hiatas I suppose now is as good a time as any to get the forum up and running.

I just found out that one of the biggest forums for this show is basically abandoned...so that's a little extra incentive.

Wish me luck!

So I gather it's not a new or recent show. Mind telling me what it is? I promise not to usurp you. PM me if you need more secrecy.

I plan on taking all my tv forums and merging them into a general tv forum. IMO it would be pretty tough just to start a general tv forum instead of a forum on a specific show.

Its pretty much what I plan on doing once the shows I have end. Taking those memebers and posts and transferring them to the general forum and redirecting the traffic wouldnt be hard at all.

My goal is atleast 100,000 members before I do this tho, I'm looking to reach that within a year and half.

First off congrats on your new project. I'm starting a forum on a new TV show, myself. It's scary, but I figure, eh, just give it a shot.

Best of luck to you with it.

that is basically what it is - the first 30 minutes has been AMAZING. Looks like it is going to be a very good series.
