setting up yet another photography forum.
I had a forum that got about 40 members in a week but I had to shut it down for reason undisclosed. (nothing dirty if thats what your thinking).

Now I have a vb licence and no idea what to do with it.
I have a site called vinclou.com and i thought maybe adding a forum to it?

Well if you're undisclosed reasons aren't likely to repeat themselves and you enjoy photography why not, would be fun.

I am just worried there are so many photographic forums to compete with. Oy Vey.

There are a lot of photography forums - so why not focus your forum on a subject within Photography? For example, a forum for your favourite make of camera [or even just camera model number]. For example -nikoncameraforums.com

Yeah if you do a photography forum make the niche smaller, if you don't want to do a brand then do a type of photography like nature or people.. but don't make your nice to small because then you wont have that active of a forum (like a forum for lens caps )

Photography is quite a broad topic, and there are quite a few forums that are dedicated to that particular subject. If you really, REALLY want to create a forum, dedicated to photography, be sure to make it unique; in fact, VERY unique. In other words, make it stand out (or, different from all of the rest)!

A small niche market forum can be very satisfying if you are truly enthusiastic about the subject . I know mine is unique and very small , but active and satisfying . It will never be a money maker , but then , I am not in it for the money .

it all depends on what you do with the photography forum, if you are going to just share pictures or talk about cameras, you will be just like the others. If you talk about the way to develop the image or how to take images, you will cut down on the number of competitors. Either way you still will have some competition. It is not a bad idea to reopen, just that you will have to be patient waiting for members to come back. As papawswrench said, it is a small niche market, and i say, if you can put this forum with one more idea you will do well in the long term.

Consider creating a portal for newbies where they can get help on shooting a great photo?
