Which would people prefer to sign up for out of the following? Get a prize for the first person to a certain amount of posts. OR Person with the highest post count in a limit gets the prize. Any other ideas that may help?

If it's a "person with the most posts at the end of the month" contest, then it's harder for the members to know how they're doing compared to everybody else. However, I do think that the second kind of contest (most posts made in a certain period) tends to be better for the forums because they usually generate more activity...That's just my experience

I think that the points usually encourage people to be more involved aswell and advertise your forum for referral points.

If you don't have 25 posts, There is still time to get those posts in" Or Pick somewhere on your forum that you want them to post. And for every post that is made in that section is an entry into that contest. What is your goal? That might be easier to help you with.

The thing is, you need to make sure that you get some competition. To do that, you need a good prize (don't expect people to make 100 posts for a $5 prize), and some good advertising. Quote:

Of course, number two could backfire if you do not have many members competing right from the start. However it is better then one because there is a high chance of spam. But my recommendation is to go with the point system, safer and more choices.

If you do the first then EVERYONE stops participating if one person achieves the goal. With #2 everyone would still have a chance to win right up to the last minute of the contest and could keep posting. You will produce more posts with #2.
