Wow - biggest regret huh?

For me that would have to be allowing too many admins. I used to be a part of one of the most incredible forums in the world It started off with me as the founder and my co-admin was the person who actually set up the forum software and handled all the technical aspects. She would be gone for long stretches of time, so two more admins were brought on board to help shoulder the load. Then one day, I had a falling out with one of the admins, and the next thing I knew I was banned from my own forum. I considered it a very hostile takeover, and regret letting them be in the position where they could do that. In the long run however, it really helped push me to learn all the things I had been dependant on them for, and now our new forums are far surpassing the old forum (still run by them) in member growth rate, visits, etc...

That's why it's always good to know your way around the backend of the forums a little bit yourself, because a ban like that can very easily be reversed if you know what you're doing

Also is a testimony to the risks of having too many staff members on board - particularly those who don't need access and shouldn't have access to the administrative aspects of the forum

Waiting too long to get involved in forums! LOL... seriously that's my biggest regret is not finding out about forums until '06. I wish I could have started in '03 or '04.

I would say about 5 months ago I was running a forum mainly by myself and it was during my noob stages of admin and I really had expectations but the forum was not going to the way I wanted but what I didn't realize was that it was doing better then most places but I just didn't see that. So, what I did was I shut the place down so someone else could use my vB and the reason I went with that place was the forum was bigger but till this day I regret that move.

Well, I don't know my biggest, actual mistake.

But at one point on my biggest forum I got my members to HATE me. I wound up leaving the forum. I have a bad history there. I came back though...

well, I'm glad I took a mo to read this, good advice! Thanks. I'll keep it in mind as I run mine. However, I don't have any regrets but mine's only about a year old. I just have a happy little Forum where folks from all over the world, Africa, India, Asia etc have come together to chat about life experiences, a lot not even associated with food, but since we are all about Food, Fun And Friends, it's all taken in good stride. We just encourage folks to be positive. When I'm in a forum that folks take way too seriously, or just seen bent on their own point of views, I'm out of there... I mean folks it's a small planet, lets make it a better one by getting along

The biggest mistake I made was giving up on some of my early forums.
