| Transfering the license to a new local boards a good approach IMO, or convert HL to a free platform I'll tell you, if you local board ends up like mine, people LOVE to donate to a local website, especially a nice vB site. i have recieved close to $100 in donations/subscriptions the first 2 months and made about that in adsense as well...... you'll be doing good in no time. Good Luck Dave, -Chase | |

But, I think Caddy even proved my point about what I was saying about local businesses will come to the aid. And like others said, move your heroes to a free platform and use you VB for the local one.

Anyways... back to the topic. Like I said... if you have high interest in the subject then stick with it. Everytime you start over with a new forum you set yourself back.

As above, each time you start over sets you back. 10 to 1, a startup forum isn't going to make it big time in 2-4 months, it'll take a bit longer (well, quite a bit in most cases). Simply look at how long these big-board admins have been going at it, it's living proof that forums are not born and populated overnight .Stick with a topic you *know* you will be interested in 6 months from now, regardless of whether you have 2, 200 or 2,000 members. Honestly, I'd rather have 20 members that post everyday than push it and have 200 that post maybe once a week or every other week.

But by your reasoning, nobody should start forums anymore, since the odds of its success are low. I should know more than anyone that you need to be on a forum you'd be interested for years to come. All of my failures were because I lost interest, or wasn't willing to put in the time. I've lived in this region of Texas for most of my life. I am truly vested in it. And no matter how many years pass, I will always be interested in valley life. The question remains on what to do with HL. Thanks to everyone who gave me advice in this thread. +rep.

I will start backwards this time, and make an actual website first, and then add the forums. Oh, and the domain name is: RGVforums.com (Rio Grande Valley)-- deep south Texas

I think you are going to do well. At least with a local forum, you can also get your friends and family to post, since they are going to know about your area. Where with a Lost forum, they are going to have to watch the show.
