Your signature policy, your forum!

We are having a discussion across the forum circuit on signatures, it seems we have some forums that disable signature links so that guests can not view them at all.

What do you guys think about this?

Please state your policy in this thread so we can get this discussion going on this major issue to all forum owners!

Yeah...I've seen forums do this before and I'm not a fan of it. I feel like it's discouraging to your members. Face it, the majority of the members here at AF promote their own sites via their signature. That's fine with me, they should be able to do that. If they are taking the time to visit my forums and participate in them, I should return the favor by allowing them to self-promote via signatures.

If I visit a small to medium sized forum which does not allow guests to view signatures, I will not register and post, it's that simple. I would never do that to the members of my own forum either.

By the way, our policy at AdminFusion says that you may only have 3 clickable links in your signature. Could you be so kind as to adhere by this?

OK my brother, but what about images in signatures, do you also show them to guests?

Yeah man, I will dump one of the links

Images too can be viewed by guests as long as they are appropriate and not too large (maximum of 75px high by 500px wide)

Cool Ryan, now that members are aware of this issue I think a lot of us out here will just quit posting on forums that rip us off and steal our work (content) from us for nothing!

hehe, I wouldnt take it so far as to say it is stealing and ripping off, but I do think that it is a kind guesture for forum admins to let their members promote to guests as well.

How about I say it for you then Ryan, because that is exactly what it is!

In addition you only hurt your own forum when members start talking about things like this!

It is a major issue that is going to back fire on forum owners if they don't play their cards right!

You can bet on it brother!

I am going to make sure of it......

I also have no problem with showing signatures to guests on my forum. I see no reason to block them because a good amount of people that visit a forum may never register. At least they have the opportunity to notice a link that might be something they are looking for.

I don't block signatures either. I am a part of a forum that does limit signatures to members who have been with the forum for a certain amount of time and/or have more than 30 posts. The only thing I've restricted in my forum are images in the signature(except for one member who got it in before I made the change). Fortunately, his banner isn't too crazy.
