In general terms there appears to be two interconnected problems:- 1) the site is not very active 2) the domain name does not reflect the topic Are you saying that people are visiting the site expecting to find something that is not there, so they are not posting? If so, can you bring things a little more on topic? If not, it seems to me that you have little choice other than to change the domain and find out how to do so without losing PR. But if you have got some PR and indexed pages you must be getting some traffic based on the content so I would have thought it would be better to keep it going rather than archive it.... I would be interested to hear what other people think..........

The forum had changed in focus when people were posting, so far to the point where it doesn't match. Then I was away for a month and teh site died. Now the majority of the content is about politics, and the URL is more general. I am thinking that the best way right now is to make either an entirely new site and then merge at some point in the future. Or get a new domain, park it, get links and then switch, use the new domain and park or 301 redirect the old one.

When I thought about getting the site back up and running I was telling all of my friends to post, then I would tell them the URL and have to explain what the site was about. I figured if it was that hard to firgure out that someone just seeing the URL wouldn't click it ( I am 3rd in google with very few referrals). So the domain is going, I am not sure how to go about it yet, whether I want to change the current site, or if I want to start anew. So in the next couple of weeks I am going to start leaning down the site to a few categories, work on a couple of the front page things, and get a new logo made. Then I will park the new domain on top of the current and buy as many links as I can find. When the links are there, then I will switch, make the new site the right one and 301 re-direct the old domain to the new Can anyone here tell me the potential flaws in my plan? I would really like to ensure as small a bump with PR, SERPS, etc as possible.
