Yes, one of my ideas got chosen! It was bound to happen. I was all over the scale with my ideas.

James, as with any public community, USENET has a lot of spam. You can't weed out the spam until after it's imported.

there are no terms its a protocol like http built to deceminate information worldwide. no one owns the usenet bcmtouring. theres no commercial thirdparty agreements because anyone that wants to run a newsgroup server (which this is basically) can.

yes spam is a bad problem on the usenet. you can set this up with whats called a killfile and eliminate most of it.

This is what I thought, Cobby my worry is not only for the person whose email address is coming on a “third party commercial website” that he/she never agreed to be a part of and never agreed to share information with, but also for the administrator and management of that “third party commercial website” which might have to face ire of the people as they discover their personal information is publicly available without their consent.

I am no lawyer and neither am I a citizen of USA or Canada, but some how I see law suit written all over it.

Just my 2 cents, to every one involved have fun. Probably my last post in this thread, but will be watching this space for updates.

bama im not going to argure this anymore. I know what the technology does. I know how usenet protocol works, i know how google handles the posts.
and I know what search engines want to index and show to the people searching for information and its not low quality usenet posts.

Quote:
If you dont believe when someone who has 13 years dealing in usenet issues says a usenet post is meant to be dupllicated, i just dont know what to tell ya i just cant explain it to you.
It is meant to be duplicated. No where in this arguement did I ever make the statement that Usenet is not meant to be duplicated.

My point is simple. Google has been enchancing their duplicate content filters for the last year and they are not stopping. What you are providing members is duplicate content and you are allowing them to add this in bulk to their forums. Once all your customers start doing this and Google sees all these duplicate posts with the exact same content on it they will start marking it as duplicate content and you will risk being put into the Supplemental results.

You can waste your time filling your forums with duplicate content and think that search engines are just going to eat it up and rank it high in the serps all you want. It's not going to happen. The more people use this the more of the exact same content appears and the more aware Google and all other search engines become aware of it.

You have built your own opinion and you can watch what happens with the project ryan and I have started as a demo for adminfusion ok.
I am going to watch. In 2 years I will come back to this thread and get an update on how well this new forum is doing.

Use Google Analytics to track the site stats. If you want you can also add me on to the site as a regular user so I can keep track of it through my account. I just like examining things in detail and want to have access to every stat. It's a case study and we are already revealing revenue and traffic stats anyway so that shouldn't be a problem.

I want to be able to track every page that gets a hit and know where that hit came from. What term was used to get to the main and from what engine. Then we will see how well this works.

Then 2 years from now when even more people are using this service and the amount of duplicate content on forums has tripled I will be very interested to see how well it's holding up to Google's latest Duplicate content algorithm. Google doesn't see these posts as usenet articles people. They see it as just another page with information on it. Information that is going to be elsewhere on the internet in the exact same format.

I don't see anything immediately wrong with setting up a user account for any of our members to check the analytics stats. Don't hold that against me, but I think we can do that.

We should have more info for you later today or tomorrow.

people have been using this technology for at least 10 years bama, and the usenet has had www archives since before google groups did it. SO i dont think were in any risk of seeing this come to a skreeching hault.

Ok, I don't know how else to say what I am saying and get you to understand it. I am not questioning how old Usenet is nor am I questioning the archives that exist on the web.

When people start using this to fill their forums up expecting it to improve their search engine referrals then they are going to be let down. It's that simple. This duplicate content will not survive in the long run and produce anyone with any kind of worthwhile results.

Quality over quanity. You can have all the posts on your forum in the world but that doesn't mean you are going to outrank the other hundreds and thousands of other sites that have the exact same content on their forum, group, whatever.

What come to a halt????? I'm not saying anything about Usenet ending or am I debating how long it's been around. I am saying that it is not going to help anyone in the long run in search engines because they aren't dumb. They may not be perfect but they are smart enough to pick up on usenet posts when they start appearing in forums in the exact same format.
