New concept for Gaming Site - what do you think?

| Title: Rookie Join Date: Jun 2006 Posts: 16 ![]() | New concept for Gaming Site - what do you think? (I'm posting this here as I'm not looking for a review of the site - more to discuss the concept itself.) I started a gaming site with a difference. Mainly, people can only post in a consoles section once they join that consoles club. Why? To eradicate all the silly negative fanboyism type posts you find on nearly all the big gaming sites out there. We also have a Rants section in each consoles section, to keep all criticism in one place - these are not shown to guests or non club-members, again, in our effors to deter negative fanboys. Our emphasis is very much on the community, and getting away from all the hostility found on other sites. The site's pretty new, and the concept seems to be working. Sony's own semi-official blog even had a piece up about us (hence why the PS3 club has the most members right now). I'm especially interested in what your views are with regards to the impact this kind of community will have on posting and activity. Is it too restrictive? Is it great because it cuts out all the immaturity? What do you think? (The URL's in my sig) | ||||

| Title: Rookie Join Date: Jun 2006 Posts: 16 ![]() | Thanks for the comments both ![]() Lee - you're right, god knows where we'll be a year from now, if still around at all In essense, we are starting the equivilent to at least 4 different sites (as there's four main platforms), so need at least 4 times as many members really. I'll try and remember to post an update a year from now htmlmaster - I thought the same too (about it being annoying), until I asked the members what they thought about a possible rethink about our concept. Pretty much everyone who replied said they liked it the way it is, but was ok for easing of restrictions if that was the general consensus. That was when I was having second thoughts myself (and the reason I started posting this topic on a few forums). But since then, I have had a change of heart, and figured it's the club concept that drew people to us to begin with, and clearly why the regular members keep coming back. Thanks for wishing us good luck - we'll surely need it! Do new gaming forums usually fail then? :=( | ||||

| Title: Rookie Join Date: Jun 2006 Posts: 16 ![]() | We do have plans Unfortunately my time is somewhat limited and another one of my sites is due for a big redesign this year - along with moving to another platform which will be a challenge in itself.I think with Gamesey, as we've tackled negative fanboyism pretty well on the forum level, we're going to look at doing something similar on an editorial level - and go for a front end like Kotaku (a pretty busy gaming site/blog). If it's a success we'll move to media and then see where it goes from there. I think we have good potential... but only if it's what people want. Lol, they might just be content with all the 'fighting/bitching' they see on the other sites... | ||||

While most people will say they don’t like this, but fact of the matter is, every one likes arguments. | ||||

| Title: Rookie Join Date: Jun 2006 Posts: 16 ![]() | forevagrey - you didn't say where? I'd love to see some links.. bcmtouring - yes I do feel there is some truth in that. However, what I found was that the squabbles actually turned a lot of people of gaming forums - usually the more mature type! So I'm hoping we can bring them back. There are still debates, but not like the usual ones. | ||||
