| Title: Lurker Join Date: Jun 2007 Posts: 4 ![]() | Hi all...I just joined here and thought to ask for advice. I really need it. My website will have several different components, and here they are. Posting RFP's (Request for Proposals) Post Articles RSS Feeds from Other Sites Post Jobs Post Events Web Links Directory Forums I am soooooo confused on what to use to manage which. I have a special mod written to do the RFP's/Jobs/News but I saw mods for vBulletin that are for Articles and News. But here is my dilemna. I don't need ratings on anything. This is basically a portal for service firms to post their news/articles, for other members, the ones I am targeting, to review. I am also wishing to have many RSS Feeds from other sites. I don't know how to do that either. For Posting RFP's and Jobs, I might keep the mod I have now but any advice on how to do this, through vBulletin or a particular mod at vBulletin.org would be great. Here is my website: FiduciaryForums.org Last question: I want to have my site password protected only for the Forum Discussions, and leave everything else open, is this doable?? Thanks again!!!!! I need the help as I am a newbie for managing vBulletin. | ||||

| Title: Member Join Date: Jun 2007 Posts: 98 Location: Adelaide, Australia ![]() | hey mate i completely understand where you are coming from, you should ready my 'build a website in 4 days' thread. My problem was that i always wanted all the mods working, all the bangs and whisltes working etc before i opened my site, but this is just silly!! It will be very unlikley you would get lots of members joining on the first day anyway. My advise to you is PRIORITISE what you want to do, and try and do the easiest mods first, this will also teach you more about modding in the process before you try to do something too hard. Why not open your forum them aim to do 1 mod a month, then you can announce the new mod to the members, and they will appreciate the new features as they become available. Get the base, then build on it over a period of time, let your site grow with your member base. | ||||

| Title: Lurker Join Date: Jun 2007 Posts: 4 ![]() | thanks all for replying. the site has been fully developed a couple of years ago and now i am upgrading to latest versions. the main crux of the site will be forums, thus the name fiduciaryforums.org. i thought about other applications but the intellectual capital built in this site will be for when the forums mature. this industry does not use forums whatsoever....i will begin with a main forum then establish sub forums along the way. i was just looking for advice on what i have currently. if anyone had experience with modding using vbulletin and vbadvanced. for instance, looking at my site, and saying, you might want to consider using this or that to do rss feeds, etc. thanks for any advice....i appreciate it. | ||||
