Official competition?

I'm currently building a fansite for the band EnterShikari (EnterShikari.org), and was intending on adding a forum to the site. The problem I face is, the official band site already has a forum (Enter Shikari - Official Website). Would it be worth attempting to build an unofficial forum, or just link to the official forum?

| Its really up to you. I wouldn't take into consideration that the other forum is an official forum because that doesn't mean yours can't be better. Find out what they aren't doing or not doing well and take advantage of it. Maybe you can even get a link on their site to drive some traffic.

Join Date: May 2007 Posts: 84 | Just took a quick look at their forum. They're using phpBB, so one advantage you could have is vB with some cools mods that would appeal to that niche. The skin they're using is also ugly in my opinion, so you might be able to do better with that. Lastly, they don't have much of a forum structure. If you could offer more interesting categories, that could spark different kinds of discussion.
