Nothing was set in stone. I had an idea of what it was going to be.

I do have plans now and they are slowly coming together. Most of the directions that some of my forums have gone have been by request made by the members. You can always go to your members and see what they would like to see.

I prefer to plan before launching a website. I write/draw about 15 pages of stuff for the website. Like startup finance, staff, marketing, layout designs, revenue source, goals... haha sort of like a business plan. Though it won't guarantee success it does help you along the way.

Nope, i had a vague vision in my mind but i just went with the flow and added bits here and there. Which i really woudln't recommend because its always good to have goals and planning, but it worked out for me because i sold a smaller similar version of AdminFusion for $2000. Which was good for a start up site.

So no i don't really plan just a vague vision, i just do it along the way.

I had 2 goals in mind...

1) Create a working automated post exchange

2) Become the #1 source for forum owners

I didn't set any goals that are quantifiable. It's easy to acknowledge whether or not I've achieved the first one, but the second one always keeps me working harder

I don't believe in setting goals like "_____ members by ___ days" or "____ posts in ____ months"

My goal was to be a board for parents from all over the world that were dealing with the same things that I was going through. My son is severely disabled, but we were still trying to figure out with what. I had been fighting for years, and wanted to help those who were fighting that same fight. It's my passion, and I want to grow it. It's been pretty small for a year, because I just now got Vbulletin, and I have been working on my master's and my time has been split. But, I feel that it's time to kick it into high gear.

Your first goal has been completed - and is used by a ton of forum owners. We're getting close to smashing the second goal. ^_^ AF is doing well.

Right, being #1 is up to interpretation....There's a lot more to it than just having the numbers (members and posts)

I am the kind of guy that likes to see the big picture and work backwards. Granted this isn't always the best way to do things, I try to pair myself up with partners that like to look at what it is now and go forward.

Finding a good balance in a partner who's ultimate goal is the same is great. Having different methods of getting there... even better. Achieving that goal, priceless. There's somethings money can't buy, for everything else, there's AF.
