Exclamation software website and forum

Hi , im Starting a few plans for a forum and website, which will be featuring links to software downloads.

Each download will have a little 'review' along with a direct download link and a link to the manufacturers website.

We will also be running Rss feeds on the site to keep all our users up to date with the latest.

There will also be other sections in the forum which include sections for feedback, newbie posts, and general computer chat, tips and advice, along with a few other topics.

All links featured will be for Freeware software.

I was just wondering what you guys think of the ideas and if theres anything you can see that im missing and any general tips and help?

Cheers

Jake

Are you going to host the files yourselves or just link to the vendor? If you plan to host the files yourself, there is going to be much more work involved here. First you have to get permission to host the files, and second you have to keep the programs up to date with the latest versions.

Overall, I don't think it's a bad idea...albeit, this market probably is a bit saturated. I think that when people are looking for software, they're going to find it easiest to search for it in Google or to go to the manufacturer's website. Then, there are websites like Free Software Downloads and Software Reviews - Download.com that have just about everything under the rainbow.

If you do start this website, you should try and come up with something unique to offer that these other websites do not have.

cheers for the reply Ryan, im just lnking to the vendor for the downloads, the whole site and forum are for freeware so all downloads will be free, so no need to worry about hidden costs or trial versions that expire after so many days.

just need to sort out a name first as i already have a really good host in mind which i shall be using.

i just cant think of anything unique as its only freeware downloads and computer tips and advice.
