Should I combine or keep seperate?

Right now I own 5 domains; 1 is a video game site, 2 are fansites for professional sporting teams (Pacers and Colts), 1 is a fansite for a college athletics program (University of Nevada, Reno), and the other is just a personal blog type site, atlhough I'm wanting to make it into a programming company type thing. My big thing right now is I don't want to have to try and manage 5 forums.

I was thinking about setting up my vBulletin on my blog/business site and then setting up forums for each site on there, having one combined userbase and message boards. Would this be a good idea or should I keep them all seperate? I would of course come up with a skin for each site for use on the forums, and it would also get the word out about the other sites I'm running.

Any suggestions?

Hmm, a difficult one. I would say keep them seperate, on the basis that they're different topics and different communities. And trying to put them all together, could cause conflict. If you cant run them all, appoint a managing admin on each or some of them.

If I were you, I would keep them separate...People are going to be so confused if you combine all of the forums...not to mention people are not going to care about half of the posts that are made since they are not there for those posts. If you absolutely cannot manage all 5, sounds like you might need to either sell some or close them down. You might not want to do this either, in which case you should have slowed down a long time ago when you were creating all of these! haha

Well most of them won't be actually up and going for about a year. I just got the domains so I know what I have to work with as far as the name of the site. The only two that are up and running now are my blog and my Xbox site (both of which are linked to in my sig). I'm pretty sure I'll be able to manage the sites, it's the forums I'm not too sure about.

Sounds like you've got some thinking to do then

If you want to put all of them to good use, you could always find somebody else, maybe a few, to help you out. In other words, partner up with some other admins and have them split the work for you. Just be sure to get people you know and trust if you go that route

That's what I'm doing. With the Pacers and Colts sites, I have some friends here in Indianapolis who are also big fans of both teams who are willing to help me out with those. I've got some people already helping me out with my Xbox site, and then the Nevada and blog I can handle on my own. I'll definately have my hands full but I love working on websites so this'll give me plenty of opportunities to do that.

If you are dead set on running all five forums, then as Ryan said, get others to help out. Even if that means you are the owner who only visits when you find time but they pretty much run the forums for you. It's a huge task to run one forum, let alone five.
