Well in brainstorming for new forum topic ideas I think I found one I really like and would enjoy running. However there are 3 or 4 forums on this topic already with 250,000+ posts. So in your opinion how much competition is too much? Would you ever not create a forum because the competition is too large or would you go for it no matter the size? Or are you somewhere in between? Obviously you should have a unique idea or something you can offer that these others don't and I can't say I've come up with this yet but I'm looking for opinions if you were in this situation instead of mine.

| I feel the same as Bama, if you actually give a crap about the site, and make it somewhere where people want to be you'll have no problem getting members. I'm not saying I'll be competing with LS1tech 6 months from now, but I'm happy with my sites growth so far, and looking forward to more. Both Bama and my forum niches are pretty saturated, and I started mine almost a year ago and haven't failed yet.

| Also, some people will join your site in the beginning because it is less hectic and more personable. That was one of the more common compliments I've received by members in the past year.

If you can't do that, then 2 things need to hold true: 1) You must have a good plan and a unique idea 2) You must enjoy the topic If either of these don't happen, your odds of failing are pretty high...So, don't let competition scare you, but realize that you're going to have to work much harder to see success

I guess the point I am trying to make is that the amount of competition depends upon your intentions. :/

AF only has a handful of competitors, but competition is still fierce because the number of people for us to target is very small...So, judging how competitive in nature things will be requires you to look at both # of competitors and the niche.

There might be a bunch of big board with hundred of thousands of posts, however if they are not properly moderated or SEOed, then they would be easier to tackle then say boards in the forum admin niche.

Thanks for the input.
