Ways to own a forum without using

I've created this thread to get suggestions and advice on - Ways to own a forum without using your own money.

Is there a way where you can earn money online and use it to get a webhost? You can earn Np$ and using it to purchase domains in namepros.

Do you think this idea is possible? Even it is going to take some time.

I would advise you to not complicate your life. A .com domain is 10 USD. A hosting plan for a starting forum is 3 USD/month. It's not HUGE. I have found out that most of the time, when seeking free stuff one "pays" more: you either have to post a lot and rely on a free solution that might not be that good (a paid hosting plan in the end gives you guarantees and you can "beat" them at any time with a complaint) or you promise to advertise something and in time the advertising costs are MORE than what you'd pay. Instead of getting 20-30 USD/month for the banner you placed for instance for hosting (money a private advertiser would pay) you keep the host's banner for the 3 USD/month as you'd normally pay.

In 6 years of webmaster career I know something: I like to pay rather than make a lot of obligations that on the long term "cost" me more.

As Dojo has said - it takes money to make money. If you look around, you can find a domain for around $7USD, and hosting for around $0.50 per month - you don't need a huge package to start off with.

You don't even need to spend out on software - Most of the free solutions are great [i.e MyBB].
The amount of money that your forum should generate for you will outset the cost. And paying $7 for the domain plus $6 for a year of hosting at around $0.50 per month brings the total cost to $13. Not a lot considering that quite a few of us here on AF make more than that amount per week, many people here make that per day/hour.

Well, to be true, i haven't spent anything on my forums/site.
I hadn't built it for revenue purposes, but just for fun/experience.
I started with a free hosting company that provided sub-domain. Then, I came across AdminFusion and i heard about Paid Posting companies. Well, i just joint one of them, and helped people over at Home of SMF: Free PHP and MySQL forum software from time to time and got myself a domain and a better host.
I know it's still not going to well, but it's a start...

So you have spent money your own money then, you just earned it by doing some work on the internet

Domains and hosting really are cheap these days, as others have mentioned...And even if you have absolutely no money to work with, there are lots of ways for anybody and everybody to make money online. Posting in forums for money is common, and perhaps among the easiest ways to do it as far as skill/knowledge goes

Either that or, you do work and instead of getting the person to pay you for it, get them to buy your stuff....

So basically, you tell somebody you will make 100 posts in their forums. You tell them that instead of them paying you $10 for those posts, you want them to buy you a domain. It's a little harder to set up, but I know that people do actually do that.

I had the same problem, you need to show your parents that you can make money back and they will be a bit more willing to let you use their credit card, also put the PayPal in your parents name.
