Country forum, too much to ask?

Ok all iv been thinking, ( not something i do alot of ) but im now thinking about starting a UK related forum, it will include things such as

The Latest UK news
Weather updates and forecasts,
chat about different areas,
sports chat

basically anything thats british will be there.

Would / Could this work, or would i be hoping too much for something so generalised to take off and become popular?

Cheers

Jake

it would have to really kick ass and be different. like really. once you have the kickass "man i HAVE to join this site" taken care of, spam the hell out of all the regional forums for the UK. IM sure theres a lot.

im not saying your idea could work, or not work, im just saying if i were to try it, that would be the general game plan....

Actually, I was searching for a few UK/England based boards several weeks ago. I never really found a LARGE, ACTIVE forum dedicated to all things UK. Maybe I just wasn't looking hard enough.

or maybe they just suck at ranking in the search engines.... im sure there are some larger boards for regions INSIDE the UK. just not the UK as a whole.

i would start it now and iron out the details later....

kick ass is basically

Good platform (vB comes to mind)
awesome template, eye catching and welcoming
great mods and features like chat rooms, picture gallerys, etc etc

Put those 3 things together to start

find 10 or so good friends to fill up the site with good open postable topics

then go on a advertising rampage, beg borrow and steal links, invite people who are in your target audience. get noticed!!!!!

Yeah, I found several popular boards dedicated to specific regions, but not the UK as a whole.

exactly. now im sure some users on those sites might not be happy with one thing or another. the moderation, usage on the board, features lacking, etc

if you capitalize on that, and they happen to see it, they will come. and more then likely they will bring their friends too...
