Recent Blog: question??

Does my forum need a point system?

I have installed a point system so that members could feel like they have earned something when they post and otherwise be active.

But I've started to think that maybe a point system is useless? What would it accomplish? There really isn't anything you can get with points, and I've tried to fix this with the "Spend Your OS$" forum, but I really don't think it's a good idea.

We're currently using vBCredits, but progress has been slow, and while a shop system is in the making, it would be useful if they would release what they have.

There is also vBExperience, which is an alternative mod that stresses activity.

But again, do we really need a point system?

I think it's a personal choice. On my site we use vbux and the vbplaza and my members absolutely love it! We do posting contests, etc and award points to them. They can buy gifts and ribbons, play in the arcade, etc. with the points. I can't imagine not having it on my site.

Well I don't really see a reason for a point system for my website. I've tried having a forum where you can spend your points (since vBCredits doesn't have a shop), but no one has bought anything.

Yeah I think it just depends on the audience, some members really get into that stuff while others just ignore it and have no interest.

I agree, I just happened to have a group that loves the idea of points, etc. Not all sites will have people that are interested in that kind of thing.

I find that forums with points systems or some other method of rewarding posters tend to attract more members than no signature no points forums
