Military Family Support site

The beginning of rethinking it.

I had originally intended to make a military family support forum when I purchased IPB. It was a "lot of time and in the end lack of interest" sort of thing that happened so I went ahead and created something else using it.

Here in the future I plan to attempt it once again.

I know one of the first things to do, in a way, is check out your competition. See what would make your site stand out from all the rest.

Now I've been to a few and a lot of them focus on content more then people and current goings on. Now I'm not talking a site like Military.com or GoArmy.com (terrible forum btw) but I'm talking just a place to make a community.

Now my innate problems is that a lot of people, I don't think, frequent forums and those that do want A LOT of activity to start off with. I also see a problem with help content.

As the wife of an Army member I can really only help with those in the Army but my goal is not to help support Army members/family only, my goal is to help anyone in a military family.

So my question is how would you build a more family site with the content that would be needed for a site that might need more but not so bluntly?

I think the first step would be to find people in a similar situation who could help you out and provide different views on people's questions etc.

Maybe you could have some form of a blog or diary where people can share and comment easily on their experiences etc.

Looks more like a social network script than a forum or CMS.

Check PHPFox, you can get started on 40 dollars per month.

Just keep OPSEC in mind for units on deployment, maybe make private areas people can set up.
