  | To Shout or not to Shout? What are views on placing a shoutbox on a forum? Some people think it can shift the activity from the forum, but is it a good way to 'cool down'? |

| Shoutbox is and either or sort of thing for me really. On a site where activity isn't going to be affected by it (either by size or topic)I think it's ok. Something like on this site where there isn't that much activity would not be a good place for one.

| I sometimes think it is a nice addition for people just to leave a small message in, but then again, sometimes discussions can then move to the shoutbox. What about in a General Topics forum? |

| I think a shoubox in a general discussion site might be even worse than having one on a forum with a specific topic. On a general forum I would think pretty much anything you say in a shoutbox could be also made in a post.

| I wouldn't want one on my forum, it really cuts down on activity.
