What Can an Admin Do That a Moderator Cannot?

D to the A-V-E became an admin. What can he do that Markity Mark can't? I am looking for some moderators and found a couple. One has plenty of experience and the other doesn't, but seems to know his stuff. I am thinking about making on the admin and the other the moderator, but I never done this before. Am I giving someone too much power?

Check out the article here if you haven't already...I'm sure you have though. That will give you some idea of the distinction between a mod and an admin. It'll also go into detail about what can happen if you pick the wrong person. Admin powers can indeed be limited - ie: Red Matrix (newest admin at AF) actually has 0 access to the ACP right now. Meaning, while he is in fact an administrator here, he cannot "administrate settings", per se...but he can moderate posts, enforce rules, provide support, etc.

Ask yourself this - do you need an admin? Admins have the ability to change settings in the forums...do you even need that? or do you just need somebody to monitor posts? You'll also need to distinguish between moderators and super moderators - moderators can only moderate the forums you let them...super moderators can moderate all forums and can also access the ModCP which gives them access to user profiles, ban settings, etc.

Basically I think the important thing here is to decide what exactly you need them to do...

I agree with Ryak.

Decide why you need a staff first. Separate the duties into two columns. On one column, are all the actions that can be accomplished by clicking something on the spot to take care of a problem, and also by PM'ng a member.

On the other, put stuff that they need access to a menu, like MOD CP. Like Ryan said, supermods can access the ModCP which means they can remove avatars & edit siggys.

Once you got this... then you got yourself two job duties.

Super Moderators is what I wanted!..not Admin. Actually, it didn't work out. Shortly after talking to the lady, she wanted money and only wanted to do it for 5 days. I will just let the kid moderate and see how good he does.
