Not starting out, as in new to forums, but starting out with a new project.

futurewars dot net.

What is it?

futurewars is going to be a community built around the future of conflict on our planet. We will look at current wars, future wars, lessons we can learn from past wars, how wars are fought, tactics, weaponry, tech. We'll look at the threat of terrorism and extremism and the asymmetrical warfare that is prevailant today (think IDF vs Hamas).

How will it work?

Built around vBulletin, with vBSEO and a frontend of either vBAdvanced or Wordpress (probably WP)

What features to include?

Obviously a forum. RSS feeds of news from warfare, tech, politics sites. Image gallery.

Target audience?

Predominantly male, western (US, Europe). Demographic 13+, I guess. From kids who love war to veterans who did war.

Promotional activity?

Related sites, similar forums, postfusion, Social Networking.

Anything else?

Yeah, I need any volunteers to assist in getting us off the ground, and will also consider banner/link/post exchanges with other forum admins.

About Future Wars: Global Conflict Community

Welcome to Future Wars. A community dedicated to discussion, debate and investigation into conflicts which are either ongoing in the modern world or just around the proverbial 'corner' of history. Every generation has had it's wars, and it seems the next generation is going to be unlike anything we've seen before. In the past we've seen total war, of nation against nation and ideology against ideology. We survived the Cold War and the threat of a global World War III.

But the modern and future world is no safer, no more stable. We've entered an age of unipolarity, of asymmetrical warfare between conventional 'traditional' armies and international terrorism.

Al Qaeda threatens to destabilise Pakistan and Afghanistan; North Korea rattles it's saber; Iran seeks nuclear weapons and to erase Israel from the face of the earth (and the Jewish State's trouble do not end there, with Hezbollah, and to a lesser extent, Hamas a threat to peace and prosperity).

China modernises and keeps a watchful, envious eye on Taiwan; The United States is considered by many to be a great threat to world peace and stability; and Russia recently flexed it's military muscles in Georgia.

We face a future where all will start to covet the last remaining natural resources, and where Governments will be willing to go to war for control of them.

It's a fascinating (if disturbing) time to be a citizen of our planet.

I suggest taking out the factions existing today.. Things might get a little personal or touchy if you have people from different parts of the world visiting your site.. I suggest using fictional PMC's instead. Private Military Corporations are growing everyday. Create 3 or 4 factions that have similar strategic and political stances but just change the name... might do better for ya in the future...

You make a very valid point, however, one does not discuss issues such as this without offending one group or other. I've tried to be as accurate (with a degree of dramatic licence in the telling) as possible. Nothing is far fetched or a lie.
