What topics are there not enough forums about?

Nowadays it seems like every topic somewhere out there, there is a forum for it. And when I say forum I don't mean some n00b site or something. Just a good, popular forum out there for the topic. Can you think of any topics that don't have a popular forum for their subject?

NBL doesn't have one forum for there competition. The only one that I can think of is the Melbourne Tigers forum, which got about 500 members in a few weeks. Definately a HUGELY uncharted niche. I have a domain name for there site, http://nblforum.com and am thinking of developing it.

Most topics already have a well developed forum for them, yes...I have a feeling that if somebody found a good one which does not, they wouldn't be here letting us know about it...they would be off developing it

This is one of the things that webmasters kill themselves over every day trying to come up with..."the unchartered niche"...I'm sure there are some out there, but it would take a whole lot of thinking and research to come up with one...although I think your time is better spent finding a semi-dilluted market and try to capitalize on weaknesses there.

Good points, Ryan. It is definitely hard to think of unique forum ideas. Any suggestions on doing so, guys?

I would have to say that myself and demojames have pretty unique niches.

Both of ours take pretty specific knowledge to run effectivley so I don't worry about any stealing.

How about a forum for those in the funeral home business? I'm sure there'd be lots of stories and help topics.

Other than this, I think going geographic is the way to go. Stay within your local area, that's a pretty big niche.

Also, consider that the admin has to know enough to be involved and answer questions about the niche.

Yep, this is a good point...even if you find the perfect niche, what's to say that you know a lot about it and/or are interested in it? I think the best thing to do when coming up with a topic/niche is to sit down and list everything that you are interested in...then pick out the weird things ...go look for competition on these things and go from there. I think that thinking of a random niche and then going with it is a bit backwards...you should first think of the things you are interested in and try to come up with a niche from there.

I'd have to agree with this one as that's the way I've been thinking of going for a while now. Currently have 5 Scottish related domain names and hoping to get my finger out and develop something soon

I just dont think I'd like running forums on a topic that is so..."temporary"...meaning people who are going to discuss that topic (funerals) will come when they need it and then leave...not many people are going to sit around and discuss funerals in their free time (sure, some will)...it's just a depressing topic and not something people look forward to discussing

It's probably most definitely an unchartered niche, yes, but it seems like it'd be so hard to build for that reason...This is the case with many other topics, but funerals is probably the most apparent one I've run across
