Moderator Guide/Manual?

Do you have any sort of outlined policies or procedures for moderators in your forums....things such as how to move, edit, or delete a thread...or how to carry out your actually guidelines.

In a previous forum (IPB), I actually compiled a handbook of sorts that showed moderators how to do things step by step with pictures to go along with it. This is because the moderators didn't know a whole lot about forums...which is not a problem here at AF. Here at AF, we have a "Mod Guide" that explains how exactly to carry out policies...how to warn members and log them....when threads need to be deleted, when they do not, etc. I would post it here, but there is information in there that I'd rather not have the entire community see

If you've got something like this....describe it....and even better, post it or show it to us if you can!

speaking of typos...

I wrote a tutorial for one of my new mods. "how to mass move" threads to the archive, with edited screen captures. We don't want to EVER delete a post as it decreases our total post count.

He loved it!

Same as Will, no other staff.

I like the idea, I would think you would almost have to write something.

Yeah, it makes your job as admin that much easier when you have new staff...Instead of telling your staff members the same thing over and over again, you simply tell them to go read your "mod guide" - then they ask the questions and you tell them about anything else that's not actually in the guide. It's also a good place for them to go back and refer to if they have a question and nobody else is around...I know that Winston here at AF even printed out our guide and TOS so that he has a hard copy on his desk when he needs it...so that he doesnt even have to go searching for the threads.

Hard Copy? That's so archaic!

I have it bookmarked.

This is something I need to force myself to do. I've known that it is something missing from my site for a couple of years now, it's just one of those things that's never a higher priority than installing a mod or doing other things related to content on the site, etc...

I truly need to make creating a manual for my super mods, mods to have as a fall back. Granted, my community is much smaller than the majority here, so I personally do most of the moderation on my forums. I guess that's why i haven't felt it a priority to do something like this. But it is food for thought, along with writing a specific FAQ guide for all new members to the site.

For me, writing a FAQ document is higher priority than a moderator guide, but both are important.

I don't have a "how-to" guide, but I do have a post that is titled "What is expected of Mods?" It's more of a guideline about what their duties are, how they should respond to different situations, and that sort of thing.
