Share your staff horror stories.

This is only for stories of things your staff have done to take the title of "horror" story.

I only have one. I gave a staff position to someone I thought I could trust last month to have extra help while I was gone on a trip. I gave them a moderator position about a week before hand and the day before I was going to leave something happened personal and they deleted every single one of their posts. Luckily I only allow moderators to soft delete and recovered all of their posts with an SQL query.

Anyone have some they would like to share?

We've had some here at AF, but I'd rather not expound on them for obvious reasons

I haven't had terrible luck in the past...One of the communities I previously administered, I was forced to leave...it was a mutual step down/release, so it wasn't a huge deal. This same community, after I left, had problems amongst the staff, a power struggle basically. The owner and admins disputed and ended up splitting and creating their own respective community.

Power does crazy things to people.

I only have one mod at the moment but a previous mod deleted another's post because he didn't agree with what was written. The mod then chucked a wobbly and asked that his account be deleted.

I have a great mod now and we have a great bunch of members and we have never had to delete any inappropriate posts.

This isn't a horror story persay, but my moderator, well, I know he hasn't modded any forums before, but I don't know if any of my members have save one or two + all the post exchange members I have. But he has been using forums for a while so knows how they work and everything.

So anyways, I don't know if it's taking a while to get used to, or what, but he hasn't deleted a single post or locked a single thread, even when it calls for him to do so. Like I have seen him say "way to post in a month old introduction thread" and not close the thread. But I know he's new and I talk to him a lot so it will work out once he gets more comfortable.

Make sure he understands that he is supposed to be deleting, closing, etc. when he runs across these things. Not everybody will know what they are supposed to do intuitively. If you have already explained these things to him, then when you see something that he misses...mention it to him. Show him the post, explain what is wrong with it, and tell him what he should do next time.

I made the a moderator manual and he said he read it, so I guess I just assumed he knew what to do. But you're right, I should make sure he actually understands it; it was really long so he could have just skimmed through it. Thanks for the advice

Typically the horror stories involve a large betrayal of trust. That's why I am the only Admin on my site! On a previous site, my co-owner" did some bad stuff so I had to disengage. It sucked because she was a cool person!
